Paper types for pre-rolled cones
Paper choice drives burn, taste, strength on the filling line, and brand positioning.
Wood pulp — refined white
Classic thin “French white” or refined wood-pulp papers. Often marketed for slow, even burns and a relatively neutral flavor. Many ultra-thin papers sold as “rice” are actually refined wood pulp rather than literal rice fiber.
Unbleached / natural brown
Less refined pulp with a brown appearance. Popular for “natural” branding. Can taste slightly more papery; thickness and porosity vary widely by mill.
Hemp
Hemp papers are typically tougher and a bit thicker, with a mild earthy note. Favored for durability on automated fillers and for organic / plant-based marketing. Confirm certifications (organic claims, FSC, etc.) per lot.
Specialty wraps
Tobacco-leaf wraps, hemp wraps, and colored / flavored papers sit adjacent to classic cones. Flavored gum and printed inks require extra compliance review in regulated cannabis markets.
Gum lines
Most cones use plant-based gum (commonly gum arabic). Claims like “hemp gum” are marketing-sensitive — several brands have faced scrutiny over adhesive claims. Ask for specs.
