Cone filling machines & towers
Empty cones are only half the production system — filling equipment determines throughput and waste.
What is a cone tower?
A tower is a nested stack of empty pre-rolled cones sold as a wholesale unit (often 800–1,100 cones). Towers drop into many semi-automatic fillers so operators can load dozens or hundreds of cones at once.
Equipment categories
- Manual scoop & tamp: lowest CapEx; slow; high labor
- Knockbox / tower vibration fillers: industry workhorse for mid-volume brands; cones sit in a platen or tower adapter while ground flower vibrates into place; twist/finish still often manual
- Cartridge / cube systems: sized pockets for specific cone formats
- Fully automated lines: metering, tamping, weighing, twisting, reject sorting — highest CapEx, best for large MSOs
Why cone consistency matters
Oval mouths, loose tips, and length variance cause jams and under/over fills. Machine-formed cones are often marketed specifically for lower error rates on automated lines; handmade towers dominate commodity volume.
Practical tip
Match purchased cone size codes to your filler’s tray. When switching paper types (e.g., hemp vs white), re-validate vibration time and grind — stiffer papers can fill differently.
